Learning to Design Protein Function

Illustration of the Zheng Lab at work: researchers studying proteins alongside physical models, data, and computation to design new protein functions.

Welcome to the Zheng Lab in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the National University of Singapore. We are a team of scientists and engineers fascinated by how proteins work and how to design them to solve real-world problems.

Our research seeks to understand how molecular interactions govern protein function and to translate that understanding into new protein design principles. We are developing physical and AI-driven models to design enzymes, antibodies, and other functional proteins to address pressing challenges in sustainability, biocatalysis, and human health.

We are building a team of curious, rigorous, and ambitious researchers who enjoy working across disciplines. We welcome prospective postdoctoral scholars, PhD students, Master’s students, and visiting scholars who are excited by the idea of combining AI, biophysics, and experiments to create the next generation of protein technologies.

Applicants from diverse computational and experimental backgrounds are encouraged to apply, including protein engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, computational biology, machine learning, bioengineering, and related disciplines. If you are excited about understanding and engineering the molecular machines of life, we would love to hear from you!
